Position Summary

The Senior Analyst Safety Management System develops, facilitates and maintains JetBlue Safety Risk Management programs and supports the Safety Risk Management component of JetBlue’s Corporate Safety Management System (SMS), in accordance with IOSA Standards and Recommended Practices (ISARPs) and 14 CFR Part 5.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • With delegated authority from the Vice President Safety and Manager Safety Management System, oversee and execute JetBlue’s Safety Risk Management and Change Management Programs in accordance with JetBlue’s SMS, applicable ISARPs and 14 CFR Part 5.
  • Support the Safety Department and other departments in performing Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs) to ensure hazards are assessed and mitigated throughout the organization and assist with investigations and root cause analysis of events to develop effective corrective actions.
  • Ensure JetBlue performs Safety Risk Management when required by 14 CFR Part 5.51 via JetBlue’s Change Management and Safety Assurance processes.
  • Facilitate the Change Management process under the direction of Safety Leadership and 119 Director Operations and 119 Director Safety.
  • Promote SMS throughout the organization through continuous improvement and coordinate the development of tools and techniques that strengthen Safety Risk Management.
  • Facilitate and directly oversee complex and cross divisional Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs).
  • Direct focus of risk analysis to provide in-depth insight into underlying contributing factors and trends; interfaces with company leadership and operating department crewmembers to ensure analysis objectives are met and needed mitigating actions are derived.
  • Validate the completeness and effectiveness of Safety Risk Assessments and Safety Risk Management performed by other Departments.
  • Report the effectiveness and health of JetBlue’s Safety Risk Management including metrics, key performance indicators, safety performance indicators via reports and dashboards to JetBlue’s Risk Working Groups and the Safety Review Board.
  • Perform continuous analysis of JetBlue’s SMS data to identify trends, safety concerns, and effectiveness of risk controls, corrective actions and JetBlue’s SMS that may predict future hazards to aircraft operations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the design and active implementation of dashboards to actively monitor relevant safety data. 
  • Manage the use and standardization of risk data management and entry into JetBlue’s Safety Management System software platform and database to ensure risk mitigations are developed and implemented into operations.
  • Oversee the standardization of the recording, documentation and data management of JetBlue’s Safety Review Board and Risk Working Groups including supporting the Risk Working Group (RWG) Standardization Team.
  • Support the development, delivery and maintenance of SMS training to ensure crewmembers possess the competencies appropriate with their role in JetBlue’s SMS.
  • Ensure records of Safety Risk Management are retained and ensure proper documentation of JetBlue’s Safety Risk Management in accordance with JetBlue policies, IOSA standards, Department of Defense (DOD) requirements, and 14 CFR Part 5.
  • Support the Manager Safety Management System on the development, implementation and continuous improvement of JetBlue’s SMS program.
  • Ensure adherence to all Safety and Security regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous related work experience
  • Three (3) years of industry experience in aviation safety and/or relevant safety programs
  • Formal safety management training or prior analyst experience working within a 14 CFR Part 121 Safety program
  • Experience with management and analysis of aviation data
  • Working knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 and Safety Management System (SMS) principles and applications
  • Working knowledge of regulations and standards governing commercial aviation (International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) and those governing aviation safety, security, environmental, and employee health and safety
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with risk modeling tools/approaches (Fault tree, fishbone, bowtie, ARMS, risk matrices, etc.)
  • Ability to quickly learn new software through training and self-study
  • Ability to apply analytical approaches and tools to problem solving
  • Available for overnight travel (10%)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Aviation operations experience (FAA Certificated Pilot, Airframe & Powerplant (A&P), Dispatcher or work experience in an operational role at a Part 121 Carrier or Aircraft Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)
  • Statistical analysis experience/skills
  • Human Factors training and/or experience
  • Ability to work effectively with professionals from diverse technical areas
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Strong team building interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with other teams within and outside of JetBlue
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of regulations and industry trends governing commercial aviation safety, security, environmental, and employee health and safety
  • Working knowledge of descriptive statistics and applied research methods

 

Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Fun and Passion
  • Promote JetBlue’s #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards
  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))

Compensation:

  • The base pay range for this position is between $56,500.00 and $103,100.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
