This IT Performance Engineer position is a member of the Systems, Network and Applications Performance (SNAP) Center of Excellence. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing full-stack performance engineering support to Aeronautics, Space, Rotary & Mission Systems, and / or Missiles & Fire Control critical infrastructure, services or applications.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Identifying relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) for the subject application or service
- Identifying dependencies / interfaces with other applications and services
- Developing performance requirements that support the (currently stated and anticipated future) business needs and customer expectations.
- Developing the appropriate performance tests to validate adherence to the documented requirements
- Selecting appropriate tools and test methodologies to execute adequate performance tests
- Provide in-depth analysis of the performance implications of proposed architectures
- Provide suggestions to architecture teams for achieving optimal performance within budget and technical constraints
The successful candidate must be a self-starter, able to independently support multiple IT applications / services, but also have the experience to recognize when to engage additional support from team leaders and / or peers to ensure that our customers receive world-class performance engineering support.
This position is remote, as part of a geographically-dispersed team.

- Application performance engineering experience: monitoring, testing, debugging and diagnosing application performance
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; experience interfacing with customers on technical issues.
- Experience troubleshooting the performance of compute devices (Windows, Linux), including the review of logs and other sources of performance indicators
- Experience troubleshooting the performance of complex networks and networking devices, including firewalls, network load-balancers, routers, switches, etc.
- Proven experience leading teams and / or projects, being accountable for meeting technical, schedule and cost objectives
- Adaptable to changing priorities and circumstances
- Experience writing in and debugging scripting languages such as Python, Perl, PowerShell
- Experience with IT capacity and performance analysis: compute / server, file storage, network (vSphere, NetApp, etc.)
- Experience being a member of an Agile team, and using Agile methodologies to track and execute tasks
- Experience using tools such as ExtraHop, CA Performance Centre, CA Spectrum, LoadRunner, Splunk, SiteScope, Perfmon, Wireshark, Java profilers, etc. to troubleshoot performance anomalies
- Experience administering and / or troubleshooting WebLogic, Apache, JBoss, or other containers
- Experience troubleshooting J2EE and Java Virtual Machine (JVM) tools like jps, jcmd, jstat, jmap, etc.
- Familiarity with Lockheed Martin Enterprise IT infrastructure
