This position reports to the Engineering Program Manager and performs the function of Production Engineering including dimensional and part/metallurgical engineering responsibilities to aid in the production of investment castings.
Incumbent is responsible for the development and optimization of all assigned product and strive to produce high quality, statistically repeatable investment castings.
Incumbent plans and conducts research and/or development of products, processes, plans and procedures. Designs methods to improve efficiency in production, reduce process variability and assure compliance with production constraints and quality standards. Must exercise discretion, independent judgment, and urgency in the evaluation and execution of possible courses of actions.
Effective decisions will result in successful part programs and considerable financial benefit to the company.
Incumbent must work with the manufacturing employees and operations leaders to identify and define quality and production obstacles and to successfully implement effective solutions.
Incumbent will work with a team of other engineers and/or technicians on an ongoing basis or as needed for the term of assigned projects.
PRODUCTION ENGINEER
Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for identifying and correcting engineering related problems.
- Perform hands-on manufacturing process review and root cause analysis.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing tools and procedures to support production.
- Perform cost reduction projects and rework plans to correct non-conforming product.
- Present on projects and product related activities
- Ability to handle many projects with tight deadlines.
- Demonstrates high urgency and strong motivation.
- Develop written action plans documenting quality problems and identifying plans to address those problems.
- Establish part routers in accordance with PCC procedures and customer requirements.
- Provide input for and review the manufacturing work instructions and technique cards.
- Review customer drawings and specification changes for impact.
- Assist in preparing quotes.
- Coordinate with Quality, Sales, Planning, Manufacturing, and production personnel.
- May supervise other engineers or technicians on assigned projects.
- Participate in the concurrent engineering process with customers.
- Work with customers to ensure that their specifications and designs are compatible with casting manufacturing process capabilities.
- Responsible for gating design and metallurgical quality.
- Plan and manage part metallurgical qualification.
- Read and interpret blueprints with GD&T.
- Create the dimensional engineering requirements and work with vendors to develop tooling concepts and verify effective fabrication of tooling and fixturing.
- Review the dimensional result of tools and wax patterns.
- Review and analyze dimensional layouts, CMM/Blue light data, and First Article Inspections.
- Use dimensional inspection results and statistical analysis to identify areas requiring.
- Identify and address safety considerations within the scope of job responsibilities.
- Be cognizant of the specific shipping goals for each part number and support the Manufacturing organization in meeting those goals.
- Responsible for annual cost savings projects totaling 3x the employee’s salary.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering; equivalent technical experience may be considered in lieu of degree
- Broad knowledge of mechanical, industrial, materials science engineering along with investment casting technology.
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability in engineering principles and disciplines; employed manufacturing processes; statistical analysis (data correlation); technical report and article preparation; preparing specifications; ability to define, plan, and complete major projects; ability to supervise/direct activities of professionals with diverse expertise.
- Experience using Computer Aided Design (Solidworks), GD&T, Statistical programs, and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Capable of interacting with various levels of the organization.
- Must be able to work well with the hourly work force to effectively address their requests.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1+ year of experience in engineering at a manufacturing company (casting experience even better).
- Experience completing cost reduction projects.
- Training or experience with GD&T interpretation on manufacturing drawings.
- Training or experience with CAD (Solidworks).
- Training or experience with statistical analysis (JMP or Minitab).
- Any type of leadership experience.
- Any type of experience using hand tools, fixing things or operating equipment.
