The Materials and Process Engineering Department, which functions within Mechanical Engineering, is looking for an RF Electrical Engineer to join our team in Lowell, MA in the Advanced Materials Section, working at the Raytheon-UMass Lowell Research Institute (RURI). A qualified candidate will have experience in RF microelectronics modeling, packaging processes, direct write/additive manufacturing techniques, and related materials and processes. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to support RURI’s efforts to develop novel, reduced SWaP packaging techniques and transition new capabilities and designs to a variety of Raytheon products and applications. The role will involve operation of printers and related design tools, mechanical and RF electrical characterization techniques, and mentoring of students. Tasks will require critical thinking to solve challenging problems and careful attention to detail on procedures and documentation of results. Collaboration with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, subject matter experts, and university personnel is required. A candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements.
What You Will Do:
Additive manufacturing equipment and process support
RF Characterization, equipment, and process support
RF Simulation tools, equipment, and process support
Act as liaison between students, professors and project leads at Raytheon
Mentor graduate and undergraduate students
Provide guidance on and ensure proper control of ITAR and Raytheon proprietary information
Developing and/or validating appropriate materials, material properties, and processes for use on existing and new products in design and production
Providing evaluation and resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processes
Participate in analysis and documentation of results
The Sr. RF Engineer job is in Andover, MA and the position is onsite.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a Bachelor in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering or RF Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 9+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
Experience in using ANSYS or CAD or HFSS software
Experience in RF systems and/or Microelectronics Packaging
Qualifications We Prefer:
Experienced user of Additive Manufacturing tools including FDM, Ink Dispense, and aerosol jetting tools
Experience with process development, process flow, and cross-functional teamwork
Experience in working with design and development (material selections), manufacturing, and/or suppliers in materials or mechanical engineering related projects
Strong verbal and communication skills, proven capability interacting with cross-functional teams, interacting with teammates of varied experience (students, professors, industry members)
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to determine root cause and solutions to problems in an expeditious manner.
Highly skilled in troubleshooting, problem solving, and analysis
Experience working on programs, projects, or products associated with the Defense Industry
Ability to lead and execute project work independently
Demonstrate multi-task capabilities in fast paced environment.
Understanding of technology transfer to manufacturing and process release concepts
Experience working with engineering drawings
Understanding of material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods
Experience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniques
Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
Demonstrated ability to lead and complete scientific based projects including failure analysis investigations
Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time management skills
ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
