Job Summary
Join our Menomonee Falls, WI Engineering team as a Principal Mechanical Engineer. We are looking for someone experienced in the packaging and design of power electronic assemblies for naval applications. Our ideal candidate is able to analyze designs for structural aspects as well as provide design guidance on the enclosure design, component packaging and placement, and shock/sound isolation of the equipment and internal components. You will also develop design analysis documentation to meet customer deliverables.

What You Will Do
- Applies in-depth knowledge of packaging and mechanical design of power electronics assemblies to analyze design for mechanical shock and acoustic integrity.
- Work as a member of a product development team to complete project deliverables on schedule with a critical focus on accuracy and completeness.
- Conceive strategic direction for product evolution and lead the development of proposals for new business.
- Demonstrate creativity, energy, and the ability to plan, manage, and communicate progress on design assignments.
- Applies in-depth knowledge of packaging and mechanical design of power electronics assemblies to effectively and efficiently design, troubleshoot, and validate the mechanical aspects of a product from a component up to the system level.
- Conceptualizes the mechanical architecture of complex systems, subsystems or assemblies to develop high technology products within a concurrent engineering environment.
- Defines mechanical interface requirements between system and subsystems.
- Verifies product or subsystem mechanical performance in order to prove the technical design through inspection, analysis, simulation and/or laboratory test.
- Generate accurate analysis and design reports for the system and subsystems of complex assemblies to effectively document and communicate the design to internal and external customers.
- Assist with creating the conceptual designs, technical documentation, and budget estimates for bid and proposals.
- Analyze and comprehend product and MIL specifications to ensure product and project compliance. Supports development and uses requirements and a requirements traceability matrix (RTM) to drive design efforts.
- Independently develops and implements corrective actions to successfully execute the projects while following process requirements.
- Gives guidance, direction, and mentorship to less experienced system and design engineers.
- Lead a team of engineers on both small and large scale projects.
- Communicates design direction and interfaces with suppliers and team members on system issues and assisting in the decision-making process for the program.
- Provide accurate cost, schedule and technical compliance updates to project management as assigned.
- Work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and provide technical leadership on large projects.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
- 10+ years relevant experience with mechanical design and packaging of medium to large power electronics (variable frequency drives, electronic breakers, switchboards); knowledgable of design/production of bus bars, aluminum and steel enclosures, and design optimization of structural design parameters.
- Able to effectively multi-task and handle changing work assignments, schedules, and priorities.
- Detail oriented, highly organized, and able to ensure multiple assignments are completed properly and on time.
- Experience with Navy applications and spanet is a major plus.
Additional Desirable Skills
- Proficient in analyzing mechanical designs for structural integrity through static and dynamic analysis.
- Experience in the use of Ansys for structural analysis.
- Experience in NX as a CAD tool.
- Design experience with metal-enclosed switchgear and electronic power conversion products.
- Design experience with MIL standards or for the US Navy.
