Job Title: Structures Mechanic – EA-18G Mod
Job Description
This long-term, full-time role focuses on modifying, repairing, and maintaining military jet aircraft, with an emphasis on structural work supporting offensive systems upgrades and weight reduction initiatives on EA-18G and F/A-18 platforms. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of general mechanics, avionics technicians, and structures mechanics to install complex modifications and upgrades on military aircraft in a controlled, on-base environment.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, task cards, and technical manuals to plan and execute structural modification and repair work on military aircraft.
- Remove, repair, modify, and install aircraft structural components, including airframe sections and related systems, in accordance with maintenance and engineering instructions.
- Support the installation of aircraft modifications and upgrades related to offensive systems and weight reduction on EA-18G and F/A-18 aircraft.
- Perform structural work that may involve drilling, reaming, and stepping up holes to precise tolerances, ensuring structural integrity and compliance with specifications.
- Assist with the removal, installation, and adjustment of associated electrical, rigging, and other aircraft systems required to complete structural modification tasks.
- Use a variety of hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete structural maintenance, repair, and modification activities.
- Apply knowledge of military aircraft systems and structures to troubleshoot issues, identify defects, and propose corrective actions.
- Coordinate daily tasks and status updates with the on-site lead and customer leads, ensuring work aligns with schedules and program requirements.
- Follow all safety, quality, and procedural requirements while working in hangar and flightline environments on an active military base.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 4+ years of depot or heavy maintenance experience focused on aircraft structures.
- Hands-on experience performing structural maintenance, repair, and modification on aircraft airframes.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, task cards, and maintenance manuals.
- Demonstrated experience reaming and stepping up holes on aircraft structures to precise tolerances.
- Practical experience with EA-18G or F/A-18 aircraft, or similar military aviation platforms.
- Ability to remove, repair, modify, and install structural components and related systems on military aircraft.
- Skilled in the safe and effective use of hand tools and power tools in an aviation maintenance environment.
- Working knowledge of military aircraft systems and structures, including integration with avionics and other systems.
- Eligibility for military base access badge, meeting all security and background requirements.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Eligibility to obtain required customer-specific badges, with no disqualifying termination history with major aerospace contractors.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience working on F-18 or EA-18G aircraft in a depot, heavy maintenance, or modification environment is highly preferred.
- Experience working on complex modification programs involving offensive systems upgrades and weight reduction initiatives.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with general mechanics, avionics technicians, and customer leads in a structured program environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, particularly when working with critical structural components.
- Comfort working in a military aviation setting and following strict technical, safety, and security procedures.

Work Environment
This position is based on a military installation and operates primarily on a day shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with 8-hour shifts and occasional Saturdays as program needs require. Work takes place mainly inside aircraft hangars with some tasks performed on the flightline, providing a mostly indoor environment with limited exposure to the elements. You will report to an on-site lead and may also coordinate with customer leads from the prime contractor. The setting is a professional, safety-focused aviation maintenance environment where tools are supplied and work centers on EA-18G and F/A-18 aircraft structures and systems.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oak Harbor, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
