Boeing Defence UK is offering an opportunity to join their dynamic Safety Management System (SMS) team in dedicated to ensuring the safety of our Products and Services. The successful candidate will become part of a large, multidisciplinary SMS team comprising approximately 20 experienced professionals, specifically supporting the Boeing Defence UK Apache Programme.
The Safety Support Official will report directly to the Apache Programme SMS Lead and will play a crucial role in the effective implementation of the SMS, as well as the management of risks and hazards associated with our products and services within the Apache Programme.
The role requires someone with good technical background in aviation and a solid understanding of SMS processes and procedures, within the Defence or Civil sector. The successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization and a proactive approach to problem solving.
The role will involve travel within the UK, with potential for some overseas travel as needed.
The role has the following key responsibilities:
Management of Occurrence reports raised within the AH-64E Programme. Perform Safety Investigations in response to the triaging of safety reports. Support the effective management of safety actions and mitigations. Lead and manage safety meetings. Perform safety promotion and feedback to develop and sustain a Positive Safety Culture within the Programme. Support the AH-64E Programme Safety Risk Management (SRM) strategy, including facilitation of Hazard Working Group and creation and management of BowTies. Delivery of SMS and Human Factors training to support compliance with regulation. Maintain SMS interfaces with internal departments, MoD and Suppliers. Support the development and use of Safety Performance metrics to drive the continuous improvement of the SMS within the Apache Programme. Support to internal and external audits. Creation and maintenance of the SMS documentation.
Essential competencies, experience and qualities:
Qualifications and experience in aircraft maintenance or engineering in Civil or Military aviation sectors.
Formal Safety Management Systems training and experience.
Experience with Military or Civil SMS regulations and standards and their application in products and services.
Experience in developing and deploying a safety promotion strategy.
Competency in delivering presentations to large audiences.
Experience and understanding of Just Culture principles and their application.
Experience in managing safety reports using Military or Civil reporting tools i.e. ASIMS, Centrik, Q Pulse.
Experience in the use of metrics to evaluate SMS performance and drive continuous improvement activity.
Proven experience in collaborating across various functions to establish strong working relationships and enhance understanding to effectively address safety-related issues.
he candidate should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to facilitate effective engagement with the workforce, as well as with Senior Leaders within BDUK, the Ministry of Defence (MoD), and our Suppliers.
The candidate should have proficient IT skills, particularly in commonly used software applications.
Desirable competencies:
Experience in data analytics.
Experience in Military or Civilian Continuing Airworthiness or Type Airworthiness organisations.
Qualified Human Factors facilitator.
Training and experience in Occurrence Review Groups.
