We are specialized in the design, production and maintenance of components and systems for engine and mechanical transmissions applied to both civil and military aviation (i.e., accessory drivetrains, engine thermal management, turboprop & helicopter reduction gearboxes, etc.).As a technical expert in the field of Performance & Operability, the Performance & Operability Program Leader will report to the Engineering Manager of Performance and Operability and will be responsible to provide technical and project leadership of Performance & Operability work-packages, assuring compliance with the Design Execution Quality and Product Safety requirements.You will act both as single contributor and lead the assigned resources to perform engine cycle studies and performance analysis, steady state and transient model development & validation by ground and flight testing, operability assessment, both on new engines development for commercial and military applications, such as GE Catalyst for Textron Denali and Eurodrone, and advanced technology demonstrators, such as AMBER, the new hybrid-electric technology demonstration program that will integrate the GE Catalyst engine with electrical power from fuel cells.The Performance Program Leader demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. Essential Responsibilities
Technical leadership of complex projects involving multiple stakeholders. Manage resources assigned to the project, formulate and implement plans to deliver technical requirements, program objectives and contract commitments
Act as a single contributor and lead the team of assigned resources to perform steady state and transient engine cycle studies and modelling, operability assessment, engine test planning and execution, data analysis to support development and certification of new products or technology demonstrators
Lead cross functional teams with Systems, Aero, Thermals, Controls, and hardware design engineers to accurately develop and validate the engine cycle and integrated transient model according to data-matching from test evidence
Liaise with the Controls organization to define the power management and performance control/limiting schedules for FADEC software release
Lead the definition of engine operability requirements (e.g. compressor stability, inclement weather, transient scheduling) and validation by engine testing to meet certification
Lead cross functional teams in preparation of performance & operability audits, design/technical reviews and provide technical direction to Systems and Product Line Leadership to make program decisions and deliver customer outcomes
Improve the state of the art with respect to gas turbine thermodynamic and transient performance modeling and prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business
Provide technical guidance, direction and training to less experienced engineers
Advocate for data-driven decisions, committed to LEAN and continuous improvement
Share engineering information and promote open dialogue
Effectively communicate, present technical data and provide recommendations to internal and external GE customers
Ensure proper documentation of all work
Qualifications/Requirements
Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university or college
Significant experience in a Performance & Operability engineering position, working on a turbofan/turboprop architecture for our engine applications
Clear thinking and effective problem solving, cognizant of system level interactions and life cycle cost implications
Demonstrated experience in engine thermodynamic and steady state and transient performance modeling and test data analysis
Demonstrated experience with gas turbine engine test support and analysis
Demonstrated experience with NPSS and high-level programming languages (C++, MATLAB, FORTAN, etc.)
Strong analytical skills and knowledge of thermodynamics, aerodynamics and engine transient operations and operability
Fluency in English, both written and oral
Work Visa in accordance with local regulation, is required
Desired Characteristics
Prior engine qualification and/or certification experience
Good knowledge of Italian language
Full New Product Introduction experience
Technology demonstrators development experience with multiple stakeholders and external funding
