About Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic: is a non-profit organization committed to providing free air transportation for individuals who need to travel for lifesaving medical treatment but may not have the resources to do so. Our community of compassionate volunteer pilots generously contribute their time, resources and aircraft to ensure those can access the care they need.

Position Overview: Join our team as a Volunteer Pilot and make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals in need.  By volunteering your time, you will use your personal aircraft to help transport patients to and from medical facilities, ensuring they can access critical medical care that may otherwise be out of reach. Overall, volunteer pilots play a crucial role in transforming lives, offering not just transportation but also hope and support to those in need.

Responsibilities:

  • Flight Preparation: Ensuring that the aircraft is in good working condition, conducting pre-flight checks, and confirming that all safety protocols are followed.
  • Patient Transport: Providing safe and timely transportation for patients and, if applicable, their companions to and from medical facilities, ensuring a comfortable experience.
  • Communication: Coordinating with Angel Flight staff and patients to arrange flight details, to include any changes to account for weather considerations and any other special needs.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and      Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic policies and procedures, to include maintaining required certifications and licenses.
  • Compassionate Interaction: Offering support and compassion to patients and their families, understanding the emotional challenges they may be facing during their medical journeys.
  • Community Engagement: Participating in outreach efforts to promote our mission, helping to raise awareness and encourage others to get involved.
  • Additional Duties: Maintain accurate records of flight activities, including post mission reports and actively participate in ongoing training and education.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a valid Private Pilot Certificate or higher, issued by the FAA.
  • Possess a current FAA Medical Certificate, a current Flight Review, and an instrument rating with applicable flight times and rules as set forth in the FARs.
  • Own or have access to a General Aviation aircraft that meets our safety standards. Aircraft must be properly registered, licensed and airworthy.
  • Minimum total time of 500 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) along with a minimum of 50 hours in make and model.
  • Minimum total time of 1,000 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) in a Turbine powered aircraft.
  • Minimum of 50 hours as PIC shall have been flown and logged within the 12 months immediately preceding the flight.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to professionalism, safety, and confidentiality.
  • Willingness to undergo a background check and complete Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic's volunteer orientation.
  • A minimum of one million dollars ($1,000,000) liability insurance of not less than $100,000 per seat shall be in force on any aircraft to be used for angel flights.

Benefits:

  • Personal fulfillment: Volunteering as a pilot can bring a deep sense of satisfaction and purpose, knowing that you are giving back and helping others during challenging times.
  • Networking opportunities: Engaging with other pilots and volunteers can lead to valuable connections within the aviation community, enhancing your professional and personal network.
  • Flexible commitment: As a Volunteer pilot, you can choose flights that fit your schedule, allowing you to contribute your time in a way that works for you.
